[Mid-term] Jeni Nurmawati - Alpaca and The Girl (Poem)

Alpaca and The Girl
by Jeni Nurmawati

Feets trapped on the dancing ground
Smile shown as the fascinating clown
Ponytail glide with the gay head up and down
Magic bubble she is within it, for the fetus of sound

But the sun was starting to hide
The fetus she flash dimmed when comes the night
All roses faded through the grotesque sight
Touch the deep shore of heart and hold her tight

The sky is gloomy yet the lightning thrill
The girl pierced by thorns, tossed by the wind swirl
Like the solar system Alpaca is the real
The girl deceived, desire to annihilate what is real

Alpaca stronger than the poor girl loving better
Losing the air with the eyes full with the line of glares
The girl slay not take any care
Alpaca perish with the haunting stare

[Mid-term] Raditya Rahman - House on Fire (Drama)

It was a cold night on spring, the radio is playing songs, Alvin's parent was about to leave

Mom:    Now my dear, i've called Arnold and David to accompany you just as you wish, don't open
the   door unless you sure it's them

Alvin:     okay mom

(Mom get out, Arnold and David enter the room)

Arnold: Hey Al, thank god you called me, i almost die of bored there

David: yeah, I was home alone, that’s scary

Alvin: I don’t know what to do if you guys don’t come

Arnold: (lowering the radio volume) hey, how about scary stories?

David: good idea, who’s first?

Alvin: Uh… I have one…  but… uh… I don’t know if I should tell it…

David: Come on! Let’s hear it!

Alvin: It’s a pretty terrible story I heard once. It all happened many years ago. There was a man who had a 7-year old son. His wife had died giving birth to the boy. They lived way out in the countryside and there were no neighbours for miles. They didn’t even have a phone, because at the time, the lines didn’t stretch out that far.

David: this is interesting

Alvin: One day, the father came home from work and he was horrified to find that his house was on fire. He immediately thought about his young son and he rushed inside, calling the boy’s name. When he heard his son answer, he realized the poor boy was trapped in his bedroom. The father ran to the door and tried to open it, but it wouldn’t budge. A beam had fallen from the bedroom ceiling and blocked the door. He banged and banged on the door with all his might, but it was too solid. He even rushed against it with his shoulder, trying to break it down, but it was no use. All the time, he could hear his son screaming. The boy was in a panic, screaming and crying out for help.

The man kept trying to batter down the door but no matter what he did, it held firm. He shouted in rage. He wailed in despair. He no longer thought about anything else, just the door and his son screaming on the other side.

Arnold : and then?

Alvin: His son burned to death in the house. The father died too. He never managed to open the door, and he stayed there to the end, desperately trying to break it down until he succumbed to the smoke and the flames...

Arnold: (looking with disgust at Alvin) that’s not scary

David: yeah, it’s more... sad...

Alvin: Wait, you don’t know the rest of the story, ever since then, the father’s ghost is still trying to open the door and save his son. And if you say… uh… well, I’d rather not say the exact words… but basically if you call himand tell him that everything is burning and ask him to come and help you, his ghost will appear at your door and take you away…

David: have you tried it?

Alvin: no, I’d be too scared to test it out.

Arnold: (feeling excitement) Hey! We should do it right now!

David: (smiling) yeah! Why not

Alvin: no! I had no desire to summon a ghost and I was already sorry I had said anything about the legend.

Arnold: (suddenly screaming) Daddy! Daddy! Help me! The flames are all around me! I’m scared!

(Alvin look at Arnold with fear while David is amused)

Arnold: (screaming louder) “I’M BURNING, DADDY! I’M BURNING! HELP!

Alvin: STOP IT, ARNOLD! IT’S NOT FUNNY!

Arnold: What are you afraid of? Oh, come on. It’s just a stupid story… That’s all… Not even a good one. (Smirking) DADDY! PLEASE HELP ME! THE FIRE IS BURNING ME ALIVE! I’M…

(Suddenly something is banging the door and Arnold stop screaming the boys looking at each other)

Arnold: what is that noise?

David: (turning pale) if this is a joke it’s not funny...

(The banging getting louder)

David: No, no, no... what is it? I’m scared...

David: i can’t take it anymore! (running to the window and open it)

Alvin: No! Don’t!

(David jump out the window)

David: AAAAHHHH! I FELL! I’M HURT! MY BACK! AAAAHHHH! I’M HURT!

Alvin: (look out the window and see David)

(The banging got louder and followed by  a scream)

David: AAAAHHHH! I FELL! I’M HURT! HELP ME! AAAAHHHH! I’M HURT!

Arnold: Alvin, shut the window, maybe the banging get louder because of David’s scream

Alvin: (shut the window, sit, and cover his ear)

Arnold: (sit and cover ear)

(The banging getting weaker and weaker and everything was silence, only David’s is heard through the closed window)

Arnold: (looking at Alvin) what do we do now?

Alvin: Maybe we should call the police, or the fire department… or… I don’t know… an ambulance to help David

Arnold: Where is your phone?

Alvin: downstairs

Arnold: do you think it’s gone?

Alvin: Well… It’s quiet…

Arnold: That’s right… we’ll have to go down… well, I’ll go… Anyway, it’s gone, right?

Alvin: I guess so...

Arnold: (walking to the door, open it and look through the hallway) there’s nothing. (Looking at Alvin) It’s crazy, the door was open all the time. This stupid ghost…

(Suddenly a hand grab Arnold and pulled him through the door and the door shut, Alvin is petrified)

Alvin: (walking to the door) Arnold? Arnold are you there?

Since then, Arnold is Never seen again, both Alvin and David never talked about what happen that night

[Mid-term] Raditya Rahman - Looking In (poem)

Look at her
Living in a golden world
But don't believe what you see
The reality, you have to know

Smiling through tear
Hiding deep fear
Dreaming impossibility
Sailing in insecurity

Don't say that she is ungreatful
Don't say that she is disenchanted

As strong as she is
A thousand eyes gazing

There she s standing
For you to bleed
But you can't take her heart away
You can't bring her to her knee
You'll never know reality

[Mid-term] Debrina Ayu Virgoyanti - Love, Edwin Ave. (Short Story)

by : Debrina Ayu

Hi Mom! How’s life? I want you to know that I’m fine even though you might see different thing from up there. It has been 6 months that you left us and Dad already find someone else. He lives in our house now, having his own family. Dinda and I live in grandma’s house even though there is no grandma, grandpa, or you. Our house is no longer a home for us.

The new semester has just begun. Time flies, huh? I remember the time you brought me a lunchbox for my first day in junior high school. I’m in the 9th grade now. Since you left, Dinda and I walk side by side to go to the school. She will go to Mrs. Triana’s house after school to help cleaning her house. Then, I will do whatever I can do to provide us food on the table.

Don’t be sad, Mom. I meet a new teacher at the beginning of this semester. Her name is Mrs. Farinda. I’ll tell you about her.

She is my new science teacher. She asked me, “Why did you get score 30 out of 100?” Sorry mom, you know I’m never a big fan of science. Then she kept asking me, “Why did you sleep during my class?” or “Why didn’t you attend today class?” – That sort of thing. I am not an extrovert person, I never will. But her determination of asking my condition touched my heart.
I’m never open up my life to her as I did to you. “I have to work in a restaurant, a shop, even a house. I have to have 3 part time jobs in a day”, that was my only answer to her. She didn’t pity me. She didn’t judge me. That’s what I liked about her. Instead, she helped me, mom. Every day after school, she would tutor me in the library. She was nice.
One day, she even invited me to join her family’s lunch at some good restaurant. It was not a glamorous restaurant like you and dad liked to visit. But it was good. The food was good. She even brought me a take away for Dinda. I asked her, “How could I ever pay your kindness?” The next thing I know, she just smiled. She said, “Don’t think about it. You can thank me later when you have achieved your dream”. I felt so grateful to meet someone like her.
Huh, Mom, I just got my mid-term test yesterday. I got 70 out of 100! Aren’t you proud of me? I even danced in the class this morning. This is because Mrs. Farinda. She has helped me sincerely. Ah, I wish you could meet her. Wow, I’ve been writing forever. I’ll be back as soon as possible.

Love,

Edwin Ave

Dear my beloved mom…

I’m sorry I haven’t writing for so long. I miss you mother, more than you know. Things have been difficult lately. I want to share what had happened in school but promise me you won’t get mad.

Do you remember when our drunken neighbors stole our mangos tree? Then he used the money to gamble in the table card? Well, I might have done something a quite similar. I didn’t gambling though. I was the one they would pay to when the wrestling about to start. But as the show went on, the police came and captured me for involving in gambling. Then I realized, no! The police won’t let me go if there were no family member. Everybody that involve in this business was also captured. So I have no one else except for the fact I couldn’t let Dinda knew about this.

One person that passed my head was Mrs. Farinda yet I was too ashamed to ask her help. She had done so much for our family but I might have let her –or you down with this. But she came and asked me, “Why did I involve in gambling?” I couldn’t help it anymore. I just burst into tears. “I want to create a special gift for Dinda. She is in the 6th grade now and will have a birthday soon. My 3 part time jobs are just not enough to buy the materials.”

She bailed me out, Mom. She didn’t yell at me nor got angry with me. She just kept helping me with her angelic intention. But once again, I let her –you down. Somebody stole the restaurant owner’s money and they accused me. I was dragged into a police station. But this time I swear I didn’t steal his money. The only person trusted me was Mrs. Farinda. She (again) bailed me out. I felt terrible with her –and you for continuously trapped in a jail. When my class year was about to end, it turned out that his own son had stole it for drugs. The owner had apologized to me. The best thing I learn from Mrs. Farinda is to forgive and don’t judge people. I forgive him –something that is so difficult for me especially because what Dad has done to us.
Hey, I start my senior high school next month. With the help of Mrs. Farinda, I got a good score and entered a nice school. Aren’t you proud of me, Mom?
Love,

Dear my beloved mom…
TODAY IS MY GRADUATION DAY MOM! I just finished mechanical engineering study program – something that I would never think in the million years before. I thought I was not smart enough to understand science but it turned out I was wrong. Mrs. Farinda has changed me a lot I high school until I chose science major in senior high school. By the why, she comes to my graduation. I wish you do too.
Hey, I could make an invention right now. I just gave Dinda a new tv that I made by myself. It used old materials but I could modify it into a sophisticated tv. I like to make new things for her birthday. Anddddd, I’ am nominated for my invention in science fair. I hope I can win it.
Something that I hate could be changed in a matter of seconds that is what you –and Mrs. Farinda surprisingly had said to me.  I never thought to like science. I never considered forgiving my father. I never expected to trust someone. But I do. I do. I do now.
I’m applying to a vehicle company. I’m hoping everything will be better from now. Wish me luck!
Love,

Edwin Ave

He has become a successful inventor. His hard work has paid off.  Today, before he is awarded as ‘Inventor of the year’, he is sitting next to his teacher and sister. Edwin gives his pieces of diary to his teacher now, after almost 13 years. “Thank you for everything you had done to me. This is only a tiny proof of so many great things you have done for me”. That is his only sentence with a smile before receiving the award.

Mrs. Farinda couldn’t say anything but answering with a smile.

[Mid-term] Adjeng Mayang Triana - In Silence (poem)

In Silence

I guess The Moon is getting tired,
Of seeing me crying, because you’re leaving.

The Wind could only blown away their cold air,
In between my cry and pray
Amongst my tears, that racing up to fall.

And The Stars as well, can only smiling in agony,
Upon hearing me begging .

I tried t love you in silence.

In every prayer I sent for you.

In every dream about you in my sleep.

In every ways I could think about

To HIDE it

[Mid-term] Debrina Ayu Virgoyanti - It's a Rain (Poem)

It's a Rain
By : Debrina Ayu

Sixteen o'clock
We call it a rain
Heavy - not going to stop

Sixteen o'clock
Five minutes left
My paper is fully loaded by nothing
You call it an empty thought

I live in it. I live in the gap. I live in you.

But it's two minutes left
When will we meet the rain in the same ground
I don't even move
Walk to the light, I haven't met the end

Cause my time is only now
In this minute - count down till
Seconds, second, and done

[Mid-term] Adjeng Mayang Triana - Princess and The Pea (Drama)

Princess and The Pea

Narator : Once there was a Prince who wanted to marry a Princess. Only a real one would do. So he traveled through the world to find her, and everywhere things went wrong. There were Princesses aplenty, but how was he to know whether they were real Princesses? There was something not quite right about them all. So he came home again and was unhappy, because he did so want to have a real Princess.

(One evening a terrible storm blew up. It lightened and thundered and rained. It was really frightful! In the midst of it all came a knocking at the town gate. The old King went to open it.)

Stranger : (knocking on the door)

King : (open the door)

Stranger : (bow down) good evening my king, (shaking) may I take a shelter in your house? The storm is so frightening outside, and the lightning is blaring, it’s so awful.

King : who are you? I can’t just give a shelter any stranger.

Stranger : oh, im sorry my king, let me introduce myself, (bow down) my name is princess Jesselene, from Southernport kingdom.

King : oh im sorry princess, pardon my incivility, please come inside (invited in the princess). What are you doing outside in this hour and this weather princess?

Princess: (walk inside) I was on my way to my palace with my entourage, when suddenly there’s a lot of robber surrounding us. I manage to get away, but somehow I got lost in the forest, and finally I found your castle.

King: ooh, what a pity for a princess like you, please princess, you’re free in my house.

Queen : (out of her room, and see the princess. walk to them, and ask the king, and pointing out to the princess) who is that my dear?

King :(pointing out to the princess) this is princess Jesselene, from Southernport kingdom. She’s on her way to her palace, but she’s being robbed half way there, she managed to get away, and she found our castle.

Queen : oh! So you’re a princess (mumbling) We'll soon find that out soon. Come inside my dear, you should change your clothes, and I will prepare a room for you to sleep

Princess : thank you for your kindness Your Majesty.

Queen : you’re welcome dear

Princess : (walked to changed her clothes with the servant) (walked pass the prince, and smile)

Prince : (walked to the queen, and asking) who is that mother? She’s so pretty, and she had a sweet smile.

Queen : that is princess Jesselene, from Southernport kingdom. We shall find out if she’s a real princess or not. IF she’s a real princess, she will be your bride.

Prince : really? Oh, I really hope that she’s a real princess

Queen : we shall find out soon (walk away)

(The Queen then went to the bedchamber, stripped back the bedclothes, and put just one pea in the bottom of the bed. Then she took twenty mattresses and piled them on the pea. Then she took twenty eiderdown feather beds and piled them on the mattresses. Up on top of all these the Princess was to spend the night.)

Queen : (walked to the princess) how’s the bath princess?

Princess : it was nice your majesty, and thank you for the clothes

Queen : you’re welcome princess. (look outside the window) it’s getting late princess, I guess it’s time for you to take a rest, it’s a long day for you after all, let me show you your room.

Princess : thank you your majesty (following the queen)

Queen : (open a room) this is your room princess, go on and have a rest, I’ll see you in the morning

Princess : thank you your majesty. (climb to the bed)

Queen : you’re welcome (walked out the room)

Prince : (walked to the queen) mother, how you will find out if she’s a real princess or not?

Queen : I put a pea under her mattress, if she’s a real princess, her skin will be as soft as the swan’s down, and she will be able to feel the pea, even it’s under twenty mattresses.

Prince : oh I see, we shall see in the morning then.

Queen : yes my dear, now it’s getting late, we shall go to sleep too, see you my dear (walked to her room)

Prince : see you mother (walked to his room)

(In the morning, both prince and the queen come to the princess room, to wake her up)

Queen : (walked to princess room, and climb to the princess bed) Did you sleep well last night princess?

Princess : I’m sorry your majesty, but no. I scarcely slept at all. Heaven knows what's in that bed. I lay on something so hard that I'm black and blue all over. It was simply terrible.

Narator : They could see she was a real Princess and no question about it, now that she had felt one pea all the way through twenty mattresses and twenty more feather beds. Nobody but a Princess could be so delicate. So the Prince made haste to marry her, because he knew he had found a real Princess.

Prince : (to the queen) mother, is it really as I think? Is she’s a real princess?

Queen : (to the prince) yes my dear (looked at the princess) she’s a real princess.

Prince : (to the princess) princess, I know it’s way too fast, we just met last night, but I’ve been searching everywhere for a princess like you, and I just can’t find the right one, but since now I’ve found, will you marry me?

Princess : (to the prince) yes I will

Narator : The next day, a huge wedding party was held, the prince and princess live happily ever after. As for the pea, they put it in the museum. There it's still to be seen, unless somebody has taken it.
