Beach of the god’s Sons

Beach of the god’s Sons

By Raditya Rahman

What comes to your mind when you hear the word "Bali"?  Sanur beach with its shining sun rise? Kuta beach with its epic sun set? Or perhaps Jimbaran beach with its sun set plus fancy seafood. Those are the most common place to visit in Bali.

Well, based on my experience, I think about something else, a beach far from the city, a beach carved off a cliff. A beach where at the entrance gate, you’ll pass though a road that split a mountain. Pass the mountain the road will turn to left, in the road curve lies a good place to park your vehicle. There you stand high above the sea and the beach is in front of you, and you feel the cold wind blown, cold enough that you don’t fell the heat of the sun. A road will take you down to the beach. On the left side you’ll see 6 statues standing inside carved cliff, the statues of 5 Pandawa and their mother, hence the name the Pandawa beach.

Pandawa beach is located in Badung regency, South Bali. Some people called it the secret beach, for the beach lies behind rock and cliff, and it was hard to visit this beach, because there were hardly any access. However, the beauty of this beach was so potential, that in 2012, the Badung government made and access road that split the mountain and carved the rock down to the beach. The beach is about 45 minutes to 1 hour depend on the traffic condition.

It was 2 p.m. and i had just arrived at the beach, the sky was clear, the wind blew cold and the sun was blazing. Hat or sun glasses was needed, or it will be hard to see straight. Some people played with the sand, fewer were surfing, definitely far less people compared to Kuta, and that was the good news, the beach was very clean, just hope it will last. There were a lot of shop, both food and souvenir, and the price was pretty fair for such place.

The beauty of nature expanded by the power of men to create even more beautiful nature, Pandawa is definitely a beach of its own kind, until someone make an ever more beautiful.

Work as an Employee of Social Ministry in Increasing Nation Social Welfare

Work as an Employee of Social Ministry in Increasing Nation Social Welfare
By Raditya Rahman Mulyana

When she knew that another employee used her registration number as a tool for promotion, she reported to head office.

"I can't let my work and achievement become a tool for someone else benefit. Hey but don’t write that, it’s a secret"

So no, we won’t talk about that.

Ramsya Pardosi or many people know her as Butet, work for Social Ministry. Her job as official of Social Ministry has brought her to remote places in Indonesia.

“At first I was in charge for Duano, the sea tribe in Jambi, it was 1984. They are a community who live in boat nomadically, and work as fisherman. So we met with the chief when it was low tide, because the didn’t go to the sea when it’s low tide.We ask if they want to settle in one place and they agreed. We need five years to complete everything, the first two years was for pre-condition, we built houses and settlement for them,  and we gave them food. In the third year we moved them to the houses and for the next two years we taught them how to trade and how to process food, we build the health centre. And after 5 years we leave them to local government.”

“After that I propose to Sekolah Tinggi Kesejahteraan Sosial (School of Social Welfare) andafter graduate I return to the county, but at that time I was assigned in regency of Riau.”

More than that, she also introduced cloth to one of the most remote tribe in Papua.

"At that time I was assigned to introduce proper cloth to be used by local tribe, it took a long process so i must visit that village more than once to make sure if they had applied what I thought them.”
Working in Social Ministry surely made some sad story

"I was so sad to see the uneven development and welfare in Indonesia. For example is Bali, people think Bali is beautiful and rich of culture and nature, but not all the resident there enjoy all the welfare. Once i went to a village near Mount Kintamani, you can say it was a poor village, why? Because people use plastic bag to store their cloth, and they put it behind the door. It's the opposite of the rich Bali.Or if we talk about Duano again, they didn’t even have the basic need for live, home, food, clothing, and health and education as addition, and they are not the only one, a lot of tribe like have such condition like that. Independent for 70 years and not everyone enjoy the meaning of independent, how sad is that?"

Beside that, there are also good story too.

“I was so happy to see how the Duano had changed, from nomadic to settling, how the built a more proper community. Oh, one time I went to Bali for vacation, I’ve been there several times for social welfare there, but this time for vacation. I wanted to charter the sub but I the requirement were 30 people, so I invited one village that I know to use the sub, the were so happy, they gave me fruit and vegetable as gratitude, one car to be exact. The also gave me money and the sum was 10 million, while I only chartered the sub for 6 million hahaha.”

She had a lot of experience  and lesson from assignment that was given to her, now she work in Kepahlawanan, Keperintisan dan Kesetiakawanan Sosial (K2KS)  or Heroes and Social Solidarity division.

One of the local newspaper once interviewed Ramsya Pardosi about K2KS and she said to the journalist "All this time students think that hero's grave is a creepy location. But with this visit now they are not afraid anymore”

With 30 years of experience working in Social ministry, she still hope social welfare for everyone.

“Now we have been independent for 70 years, but not everyone enjoy the true meaning of independent. I just want them to feel the true meaning of independent, with the fulfilment of housing, clothing, food, education, and health. It will be your generation turn to make it happen”

[Mid-term] Raditya Rahman - House on Fire (Drama)

It was a cold night on spring, the radio is playing songs, Alvin's parent was about to leave

Mom:    Now my dear, i've called Arnold and David to accompany you just as you wish, don't open
the   door unless you sure it's them

Alvin:     okay mom

(Mom get out, Arnold and David enter the room)

Arnold: Hey Al, thank god you called me, i almost die of bored there

David: yeah, I was home alone, that’s scary

Alvin: I don’t know what to do if you guys don’t come

Arnold: (lowering the radio volume) hey, how about scary stories?

David: good idea, who’s first?

Alvin: Uh… I have one…  but… uh… I don’t know if I should tell it…

David: Come on! Let’s hear it!

Alvin: It’s a pretty terrible story I heard once. It all happened many years ago. There was a man who had a 7-year old son. His wife had died giving birth to the boy. They lived way out in the countryside and there were no neighbours for miles. They didn’t even have a phone, because at the time, the lines didn’t stretch out that far.

David: this is interesting

Alvin: One day, the father came home from work and he was horrified to find that his house was on fire. He immediately thought about his young son and he rushed inside, calling the boy’s name. When he heard his son answer, he realized the poor boy was trapped in his bedroom. The father ran to the door and tried to open it, but it wouldn’t budge. A beam had fallen from the bedroom ceiling and blocked the door. He banged and banged on the door with all his might, but it was too solid. He even rushed against it with his shoulder, trying to break it down, but it was no use. All the time, he could hear his son screaming. The boy was in a panic, screaming and crying out for help.

The man kept trying to batter down the door but no matter what he did, it held firm. He shouted in rage. He wailed in despair. He no longer thought about anything else, just the door and his son screaming on the other side.

Arnold : and then?

Alvin: His son burned to death in the house. The father died too. He never managed to open the door, and he stayed there to the end, desperately trying to break it down until he succumbed to the smoke and the flames...

Arnold: (looking with disgust at Alvin) that’s not scary

David: yeah, it’s more... sad...

Alvin: Wait, you don’t know the rest of the story, ever since then, the father’s ghost is still trying to open the door and save his son. And if you say… uh… well, I’d rather not say the exact words… but basically if you call himand tell him that everything is burning and ask him to come and help you, his ghost will appear at your door and take you away…

David: have you tried it?

Alvin: no, I’d be too scared to test it out.

Arnold: (feeling excitement) Hey! We should do it right now!

David: (smiling) yeah! Why not

Alvin: no! I had no desire to summon a ghost and I was already sorry I had said anything about the legend.

Arnold: (suddenly screaming) Daddy! Daddy! Help me! The flames are all around me! I’m scared!

(Alvin look at Arnold with fear while David is amused)

Arnold: (screaming louder) “I’M BURNING, DADDY! I’M BURNING! HELP!

Alvin: STOP IT, ARNOLD! IT’S NOT FUNNY!

Arnold: What are you afraid of? Oh, come on. It’s just a stupid story… That’s all… Not even a good one. (Smirking) DADDY! PLEASE HELP ME! THE FIRE IS BURNING ME ALIVE! I’M…

(Suddenly something is banging the door and Arnold stop screaming the boys looking at each other)

Arnold: what is that noise?

David: (turning pale) if this is a joke it’s not funny...

(The banging getting louder)

David: No, no, no... what is it? I’m scared...

David: i can’t take it anymore! (running to the window and open it)

Alvin: No! Don’t!

(David jump out the window)

David: AAAAHHHH! I FELL! I’M HURT! MY BACK! AAAAHHHH! I’M HURT!

Alvin: (look out the window and see David)

(The banging got louder and followed by  a scream)

David: AAAAHHHH! I FELL! I’M HURT! HELP ME! AAAAHHHH! I’M HURT!

Arnold: Alvin, shut the window, maybe the banging get louder because of David’s scream

Alvin: (shut the window, sit, and cover his ear)

Arnold: (sit and cover ear)

(The banging getting weaker and weaker and everything was silence, only David’s is heard through the closed window)

Arnold: (looking at Alvin) what do we do now?

Alvin: Maybe we should call the police, or the fire department… or… I don’t know… an ambulance to help David

Arnold: Where is your phone?

Alvin: downstairs

Arnold: do you think it’s gone?

Alvin: Well… It’s quiet…

Arnold: That’s right… we’ll have to go down… well, I’ll go… Anyway, it’s gone, right?

Alvin: I guess so...

Arnold: (walking to the door, open it and look through the hallway) there’s nothing. (Looking at Alvin) It’s crazy, the door was open all the time. This stupid ghost…

(Suddenly a hand grab Arnold and pulled him through the door and the door shut, Alvin is petrified)

Alvin: (walking to the door) Arnold? Arnold are you there?

Since then, Arnold is Never seen again, both Alvin and David never talked about what happen that night

[Mid-term] Raditya Rahman - Looking In (poem)

Look at her
Living in a golden world
But don't believe what you see
The reality, you have to know

Smiling through tear
Hiding deep fear
Dreaming impossibility
Sailing in insecurity

Don't say that she is ungreatful
Don't say that she is disenchanted

As strong as she is
A thousand eyes gazing

There she s standing
For you to bleed
But you can't take her heart away
You can't bring her to her knee
You'll never know reality
